My 2013 Happiness Project: April Wrap-Up & May Focus

Follow Casz's Fiction Farm on WordPress.com

Well you can all tell that Urban Farming season is in full-swing. Here it is the 5th of May, the endearing Cinco de Mayo, and I haven’t posted a round-up or a May goals post.

How did I do in April? Suffice to say, I kicked ass. Despite personal problems in my family life, financial changes…on and on the hurdles were non-stop it seemed, I did good in April as far as My 2013 Happiness Project goes. I almost feel like I set up unfair goals, but, then, again, it was all things I needed to work on:  Try Humor, Make Memories, Unload Useless Stuff, Try New Art.

I am well over 85 percent with all the goals – 3 of them over 90 percent. Try New Art presented the hardest problem – and I have lots of unfinished pieces I’ll need to try to complete in May.

So what are May’s goals?

Most of these goals are self-explanatory, save “Get Your Groove Back.”  It’s what some may think it is. Get my sexy back, where my marriage is concerned. But, it also serves a purpose beyond my spouse and I in allowing intimacy to become important in my life, not just with my spouse, but with all my relationships. It will serve a dual purpose in making sure my friends are friends and not just acquaintances –and for those dealing in the social media world, that can be an important distinction. A month of focusing on that, I think should strengthen my martial bond and determine who’s who in my list of loved ones. It may sound brash, but I just don’t have time for fake shit any more. I love it when people come play with me – when they play me…not so much.

You may be saying, “Hey, Casz, you have a lot of zeroes on this chart already.” And I would say, “Yeah, I know.”  Like I said, it’s Urban Farming season; therefore, much of my motorcycle time and guitar time have been spent getting my hands in the soil and other back-breaking outdoor work. However yesterday and today, I did some studying for my Motorcycle road test. Because the weather’s been awesome for riding, I’ve also noted that a lot of riders give other riders a bad name because they are lazy or just plain rude when they are on the road. I promise not to be one of those ugly bikers.

Guitar. Ugh. I may have to modify that and do ukulele. My fingers hate the guitar strings. But, I did say Guitar. One day I’d like to serenade my beloved with Death Cab For Cutie’s “Follow You Into The Dark.” Maybe I’ll just start with smoke on the water. Hell if the Ramones and Patti Smith can do it, so can I.

Wish me luck on May. Leave a comment here and tell me how you’re doing on your New Year’s Resolutions. Was April good to you? How is May shaping up?

  1. I don’t think I made any “New Year’s Resolutions,” but I try to set goals for myself. On some of them, I did OK, but on many of them, I think I fell down on the job, so to speak. I’ve been good with switching out my wardrobe from spring to fall to spring again, and getting rid of stuff, and keeping up with my ADL’s (activities of daily living – the all-important things that keep me and my home from turning into a smelly, unkempt mess), but other things I haven’t been able to keep up. Or I forget about them. I try to keep up, but often I lack motivation.

But I like your Happiness Project. Sounds like you’re doing more of the things that you enjoy and that give you a sense of inner peace and balance, which is important when you have a stressful life.
